Day 12 – Hong Kong and Macau

20 Nov

If Wikipedia didn’t tell me this was a genuine historic ruin, I would happily believe that it was a fake church front erected as a backdrop for selfies. You have never seen so many people taking selfies for so long and in so many ludicrous poses until you have visited the ruins of St Paul’s Cathedral in Macau

Cheryl is only just slightly too big to fit in my hand luggage otherwise I’d bring her home with me:

Day 11 – Hong Kong

19 Nov

With bad weather, bad planning, and lack of skill, I’ve failed to get one decent photo of Hong Kong so far. I have had copious amounts of superb dim sum and dry martinis though, so not all bad, and HK is stunning to look at and be in even if you can’t catch it on camera.

I have also had chance to pick up a battery charger for the drone. When you find yourself in a prime flying spot like Bagan with only 5 minutes flying time because you packed one of your drones and one of your chargers but not a matching set, it really is annoying. Fortunately DJI have their flagship store in HK so problem solved.

One thing stands out above all else though, and that’s the service from Jacqueline and especially Cheryl at the Shangri La, who have gone way beyond anything I’ve ever experienced in a hotel.

After tonight’s trip across the water on the Star Ferry to the DJI store I returned to my sensational room with its stunning view to find this box of chocolates and a hand written note from the even more stunning Cheryl. Incredible.

Day 10 – Hong Kong

19 Nov

After piecing together 3 of these, including a delay that sees me running across Yangon airport to arrive at the jetway at the last possible second, just as they’re starting to close the door:

and 2 of these:

I finally make it to my Hong Kong hotel, where my room isn’t just on the top floor, it’s up a private staircase to a secret, club only top-top floor:

Sadly, although there’s a nice little box of chocs to thank me for being a Jade member:

the view leaves a little to be desired:

Fortunately the wonderful and beautiful Cheryl and Jacqueline listen to my disappointment and upgrade me. The weather isn’t helping:

but in the morning when I press the button that opens the automatic curtains I discover how much the view has improved:
