Day 5 – Al Jabal Al Akhdar

27 Mar

Spending a night in the desert is great.

Just you and the sand.

And a hundred Toyota Landcruisers

More superb mountain roads:

Remains of an RAF De Haviland Venom that crashed during the Jabal Akhdar war in the late 50s:

Always join the hotel loyalty program, even if you never plan to use that chain again. I was quite happy with my spectacular room with a view of the canyon, but when they realised I was a platinum member they sent over a bottle of prosecco, a fruit platter, and an assortment of cold cuts and cheeses, which made it even better

Thanks to the instructions, I even managed to open the bottle without injury

Day 3 – Muscat

25 Mar

When you fly first class and have to take an airport bus to the plane, it’s still a first class airport bus

My ride for the next few days.

Gulf of Oman from the hotel room.

Familiarisation drive and a little off-roading in the Landcruiser to prepare for tomorrow before a visit to the corniche then the hotel club lounge where I discover the dust on the lens spoiling all of today’s photos…

Day 2 -Doha

25 Mar

Qatar Airways Al Safwa first class lounge where I got my own private “quiet room” that had a bed, TV, and a bathroom with shower. It was nicer than most Ibis or Premier Inn
